Wonderful Summertime!!
Summer Sun by Robert Louis Stevenson Great is the sun, and wide he goes Through empty heaven with repose; And in the blue and glowing days More thick than rain he showers his rays.
Though closer still the blinds we pull To keep the shady parlour cool, Yet he will find a chink or two To slip his golden fingers through.
The dusty attic spider-clad He, through the keyhole, maketh glad; And through the broken edge of tiles Into the laddered hay-loft smiles.
Meantime his golden face around He bares to all the garden ground, And sheds a warm and glittering look Among the ivy's inmost nook.
Above the hills, along the blue, Round the bright air with footing true, To please the child, to paint the rose, The gardener of the World, he goes. |

| Dear Friend So many exciting things have happened at First Congregational Church since our last issue of The Navigator. The progress of the new facility has moved forward at a dramatic pace and it appears we will be in the beautiful new building by Christmas, if not before. I had hoped to have a picture of the new steeple being erected for this issue, but that will come soon. Those who live in Naples or nearby must take a moment to drive by and go inside. The Young Adults of the church have already had two of their Sunsetters Outings at the beach and both have been well attended and, of course, lots of fun for everyone. Our softball team ended its season with a championship win (way to go guys and gals). Jeanne Campbell and I attended the Annual Meeting of the National Association in Milwaukee where (Guess what!) our newsletter, Bay Watch, was awarded "First Place" for having the best newsletter among the churches in the National Association. Finally, at the suggestion of our Outreach Committee, our church will be sponsoring a fall golf tournament at Stonebridge Country Club for the support of The Foundation for the Support of the Developmentally Disabled. Thank you for all the wonderful comments on The Navigator and the progress of our new church. Rev. Les Wicker, Pastor |

New Church Progress Rapidly Moving Forward.. Dan Danielson and Roland Fondessy take a break under the umbrella from cutting concrete light poles. Both men worked in the 97 degree temperature to refurbish the 17 poles to be used for lighing around the church. Their gallant effort saved the church $23,000. Inside Sanctuary Carpenters cook BBQ lunch for all workers. Great food..."All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!" |

| Sun Setters Becoming a Big Hit! The Sun Setters Club meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at Wiggins Pass State Park for fellowship, food, horse shoes, volleyball, walking the beach, fishing, and watching the sun set. The outing has been well attended as everyone looks forward to this time of sharing and fun. The food is always plentiful and the smiles are always big. Looking at the Sun Set and "The Green Flash."Food, Food, and more Food. It's just "too good to resist." |

Wedding Bells Ring for Heather and J.W. Congratulations to Heather Begley and J. W. Webb who were united in marriage on June 13 at The Strand Country Club. J.W. is an attorney who is moving his practice from Orlando to Naples and Heather is the proprietor of The Weatherburn Art Gallery at Bay Front. Heather and J W will be becoming members of the church in the near future. Rev. Wicker performed the ceremony. |

Award Winning Newsletter!!! What a nice surprise it was at the Annual Meeting of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches when the winner of the newsletter contest was announced, that being our own First Congregational Church of Naples. Our delegate, Jeanne Campbell, accepted the award. Pictured with Jeanne is Mona Johns whose outstanding graphic artwork was a key in receiving the award. |

Mission Outreach.... Among the several missions First Congregational supports is the Congregational Church of Mynamar (formerly Burma). The lead pastor of the mission is Rev. Elvis Sa Do who is seen in a classroom of one of the churches teaching English to his church members. Rev. Sa Do was converted to Christianity, attended seminary, and now oversees several churches in his native country. Jeanne Campbell and Rev. Wicker were able to catch a moment with Rev. Sa Do at the Annual Meeting. One of the great things about the National Association is the close contact member churches have with the missions of the church. |

Save the Date!! October 24th is the date for the Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by the church and to be held at Stonebridge Country Club. Proceeds from the golf tournament will support the Foundation for the Developmentally Disabled of Collier County. The idea for the golf tournament grew out of a meeting of the Outreach Committee in thinking of ways to enlarge the church's mission outreach. In the church's brief history of existence funds have already been raised for the building of two Habitat for Humnaity homes. |

Tournament Champions Our Co-ed Softball team wound the season up by winning the Collier County Rec League Championship. Bob Johns is the team manager. |
